ABOUT THIS JOB:
Andy from Paddle UK approached Boxtor towards the back end of 2024 to purchase 2 x 40ft high cube 1 trip shipping containers in dark green RAL 6007.
These containers were being procured to create a 40ft container based workshop, storage and canopy solution at the National Watersports Centre in Notts (Team GB Canoeing HQ).
The structures will appear as per this design mock up below:

The 1st 40 ft shipping container with Workshop Specification conversion was supplied in the following specifications:
- Leaving original container doors for optimal security with a lock box
- fully insulated and ply lined (15mm thick plywood) with rockwool thermo insulation
- Full electrics to include internal lighting and electrical sockets (sufficient electrical sockets for multiple uses including wall mounted electric heaters
- Electric ‘hook up’ attachment on external of the building for connection to mains
- External weather protected plug sockets on the external wall of the container for use under the canopy.
- Side access door and window both with security ‘shutters’ and locks
The 2nd 40ft container would be used as a secure storage unit and was supplied in the following specification:
- Fully insulated and ply lined (15mm thick plywood) with rockwool thermo insulation
- Lock Box fitted to door for extra security
Installation Process
We were asked to also advise on the correct type of concrete base these 2 x 40ft containers should be placed onto. Boxtor provided detailed factory drawings with measurements and photos to ensure the delivery process was straightforward and well advised.
Large concrete slabs were procured by Paddle UK and the ground was prepared correctly, ensuring all 4 x concrete slabs for each 40ft unit were perfectly level and set into a concrete footing/ foundation.
This was to ensure the containers sat ‘flush’ and level on the ground to allow for the canopy to be placed correctly on top of the roof structure.
Delivery Process
Boxtor delivered both units together using 1 x articulated HIAB crane lorry and 1 x articulated flatbed lorry, allowing for seamless offload into position together over a given time period. The lorries headed up the night before to Nottingham and were ready to go first thing in the AM on site at the National Watersports Centre!
Spirit levels and string ‘guide lines’ were used by our highly skilled delivery drivers to ensure the placement of the units was inch perfect.
