New 20ft Shipping Container Carefully Delivered in Colchester

Trudy approached Boxtor to supply a new 20’ (1 trip) shipping container to her local farm site near Colchester. This was not an ordinary delivery however for our trusted and highly skilled HIAB haulier.

Trudy and her family required the 20’ shipping container to be delivered to the rear of her farm site. The lorry had to carefully navigate a series of narrow gates, driving over grass to the rear of her property. The container also required placement under some overhead large trees, so bottom lift chains were required to carefully place this container where she required it to go.

What is a Bottom Chain Lift

This is when the HIAB lorry will safely attach its chains (which are attached to the crane itself) to the bottom of the corner casting of the container. This allows for the crane to lift underneath overhead obstructions such as trees when access permits.
Please note, the driver of the HIAB lorry decides if this is possible to do, not the customer/ site!

When Can a Lorry Drive Over Grass

This delivery took place during a period of very dry weather, so the ground was firm and hard standing. Please note, driving over grass is not permitted or possible during wet, winter months. Again, the onus is on the driver to decide whether it is possible to attempt delivery over grass. They have the right to abort the job if they feel the lorry could sink into the ground!

Some haulage firms will refuse to drive over grass year round, please check with us first. Please also note, it is very unlikely an articulated HIAB can drive over grass as they are very heavy, even when empty and will likely sink into the ground.

Some Points to Consider

  • The weight of our trucks would cause the chassis to sink into the ground, causing damage to the vehicle and also to the site.
  • Width restrictions – your access gate / entrypoint must be a minimum of 10ft (3 Metres) wide to allow our delivery lorries access into your site.

Our haulier David navigated the tricky access with ease and delivered one of our 1 trip dark green containers onto pre arranged concrete blocks. We worked closely with Trudy, providing detailed drawings of our containers to show the exact measurements so she could plan the base of the container accordingly.

For the base of the container, we recommend concrete breeze blocks (as pictured) or railway sleepers / timber blocks. All 4 corners must be perfectly level with each other to ensure the containers sits flat on the base. This ensures that the doors will open / close as they should.
