Boxtor recently supplied 1 x no. 6ft nearly new (2023 YOM) ex hire fleet storage container to a school in Hayes, West London.
ABOUT THIS JOB
Reena contacted Boxtor online to enquire about the purchase of 1 x 6ft storage container for storage of gardening and playground facilities / services equipment. The container needed to be in good cosmetic condition, blue in colour and have a secure lockbox fitted to the unit to ensure the padlock was protected from any potential theft.
We repainted the container in RAL 5010 gentian blue colour to match the schools branding.
ABOUT THIS CONTAINER SIZE
6ft shipping containers provide an ideal storage solution for when space is at a premium. ‘Bigger is not always better’ in some cases! 1.91 Metres in height and much narrower than a standard container (at only 1.97 Metres wide), these smaller units offering just under 40sq foot in cubic capacity. Fitted with dual locking bar doors and a padlock steel security cowl, these mini units are a fantastic choice for storing tools, gardening equipment, sports equipment and many other types.
DRIVING OVER GRASS – IS IT POSSIBLE WITH A HIAB LORRY WITH CONTAINER LOADED?
For this particular job, the school required the 6ft shipping container to be placed onto a pre existing concrete base (where an existing shed was in situ). Concrete bases make for an ideal surface for containerized units to be placed onto as they are usually very level and flat.
The area where the concrete slab was positioned required the HIAB delivering the container to drive over a large area of grass (via the playground). HIAB lorries can drive on grass, but ONLY during dry spring/ summer months when there has been a period of minimal rainfall. . It is VERY rare that an articulated HIAB lorry will ever attempt to go onto grass, so please do be aware of this prior to accepting containers. The weight of artic lorries are so much greater, as is a 40ft shipping container. Therefore these types of deliveries are not common, and only ever with a rigid or wagon and drag HIAB.
Luckily in this instance, the site had firm and level ground which was sufficient to take the weight of the Rigid HIAB vehicle. A 6ft container only weighs approx. 550 KG so is about 25% of the weight of a 20ft container for eg.
The container is now safely positioned on site and another happy client has received their container!
Please be aware: The decision to drive onto the grass is entirely up to whether the driver of the truck agrees to attempt such a delivery. If the truck does sink into the ground and require a tow truck / tractor to remove it, the liability and costs of this can sometimes fall onto the customer unless otherwise agreed upfront.
