Ply Lining & Insultation Installed Within New 20ft 1 trip Container to Chelmsford

Boxtor recently supplied a new (1 trip) 20ft shipping container to a farm in Chelmsford. Our client required the container to be ply lined with 15mm  hard placed plywood lining and insulation. The container was supplied in RAL 6007 dark green to match the rural surroundings.

More About Ply Lining

Ply lining a shipping container is the only way to guarantee that you can prevent the possibility of any condensation building up within a shipping container. This protects your valuable goods stored within, and keeps them 100 % dry & protected from the elements. It also keeps any potential insects / rodents out!

Steps to Ply Line and Insulate

  1. Clean the container first – remove any debris and check there is no rust / debris etc (especially if using a used container for a ply line job).
  2. Choose the type of insulation required – we usually recommend rockwool insulation as the best option to go for here.
  3. Measure and Cut: Measure the interior walls and cut the insulation to fit in situ. If using fiberglass batts, cut to fit between the wall studs.
  4. Install Insulation: Place the insulation (rockwool or similar) in the wall cavities or directly against the container walls. If using rigid foam, apply construction adhesive to the back and press it into place. For batts, ensure they fit tightly between studs.
  5. Ply Lining: Cut plywood sheets to fit the walls. The most cost effective option is 9mm thick plywood sheets, but we can install much thicker ply if required. Our usual spec is 12-15mm thick ply. Secure the plywood to the walls using screws or nails, ensuring it’s level and flush to the backwall. If installing windows or doors, make sure you leave space for this!
  6. Finish the Edge by filling with sealant:  Sealant or other adhesive can be used to fill between the plywood and the container walls to prevent moisture intrusion.
  7. Floor Insulation (if desired): Also consider insulating the floor by placing insulation boards or batts beneath plywood flooring.
  8. Finishing Touches: Sand and paint the plywood if desired for aesthetics. Install any additional features like shelves, lighting, or electrical outlets as needed. Get in touch with us if you require a price for these optional extra’s!
