Port of Southampton welcomes two of the worlds largest container vessels, including 24,000 TEU MegaMax “Manila Express”
The recent arrival of two of the largest container ships at the Port of Southampton marks a significant milestone for both the port and the shipping industry as a whole.
The channel widening will enable the largest container vessels to pass the biggest cruise ships berthed in the port.This mammoth project has involved removing about 900,000 cubic meters of predominantly clay-based material over a 2km section, widening the channel by between 30 and 65 meters in parts!
These massive vessels not only showcase the port’s capacity and capability but also demonstrate its strategic importance in global trade networks.
